The Gdańsk Institute for Market Economics (IBnGR) is a non-governmental independent scientific research institution dealing with the economy and government policy.The IBnGR was established in 1989 as a non-profit foundation
by a group of people who had been active in attempts to reform the economic and political system in Poland in the 1980s.The IBnGR is registered in the District Court of Gdańsk in the Register of Associations and Foundations under the KRS number 0000012337.The mission of the IBnGR is to conduct research and formulate useful recommendations for government policy, to provide independent assessments of the economy for the business sector and public opinion.The IBnGR is one of the most prestigious think tanks in Poland. It deals with economic and development issues at the national and international level, combined with a regional perspective.

The European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk is the cultural institution whose aim is to promote and spread knowledge about the peaceful victory of Solidarity. Since the opening of the new building in 2014 ECS has been visited
by 1.5 million guests from all over the world. The Center itself has become one of the largest tourist attractions. The ECS is also the only museum in Poland honored with the Council of Europe Museum Prize which has been awarded annually since 1977 to a museum judged to have made a significant contribution to the understanding of European cultural heritage.The heart of the ECS is the permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of solidarity and the changes in Central and Eastern Europe. The interactive exhibition, besides modern spatial forms and multimedia presentations, contains authentic shipyard’s equipment and valuable memorabilia. The ECS is an educational center, a research center, archives, a library and a media center. Finally, it is the public space, a meeting place for citizens who feel responsible for the development of democracy; a zone of solidarity and civic engagement. It is here where film festivals, concerts, international and local events and meetings take place.
