A graduate of the Paris-based Institut d’Etudes Politiques and Ecole Nationale d’Administration. He also graduated from law studies.
CAREER
Jean Lemierre’s extensive professional experience is highly recognized in the international finance sector.
During the 1980s, Jean Lemierre held various positions in the French tax administration, including director of tax legislation and general manager of taxes.
In May 1995 he was appointed director of the office of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, and in October of the same year, he became director of the French State Treasury.
Before being appointed president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2000, he was a member of the European Monetary Committee (1995-1998), president of the European Economic and Financial Committee (1999-2000) and president of the Paris Club (1999-2000). He was the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development until 2008.
In 2009, Jean Lemierre became a member of the China Investment Corporation (CIC) International Advisory Board and the China Development Bank (CDB) International Advisory Board. He is a member of the International Advisory Panel (IAP) of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
From September 1, 2008 to November 30, 2014, he was a senior advisor to the chairman of the BNP Paribas Group.
CURRENT POSITIONS
On December 1, 2014, Jean Lemierre became chairman of the Supervisory Board of the BNP Paribas Group.
He is also the chairman of the Center d’Études Prospectives et d’Informations Internationales (CEPII), is a member of the Institute of International Finance (IIF), and was elected a member of the TOTAL Board of Directors in May 2016.
