Katarzyna Zajdel-Kurowska is responsible for leading the World Bank Treasury’s Department of Asset Management and Advisory. In her capacity as Director, Ms. Zajdel-Kurowska oversees the asset management of $80 billion of liquidity and fixed income portfolios for trust funds and clients, including central banks, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and international financial institutions. She also provides strategic leadership for the World Bank Reserve Advisory & Management Partnership (RAMP).
Ms. Zajdel-Kurowska, a Polish national, has over twenty years of experience in private and public sectors, as well as international and domestic financial and development institutions. She is a former Executive Director and Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank from 2018 to 2022. Prior to joining the World Bank, she was a member of the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland and was responsible for risk and reserve asset management. From 2009 to 2012, she served as Alternate Executive Director and Poland’s representative on the IMF’s Board. From 2007 to 2009, she was a Deputy Finance Minister responsible for economic and financial policy, public debt management, and financial market regulations. She was also a member of the Financial Stability Committee (2008-2009), Chairman of the State Guarantees Committee (2007-2008), Deputy Chairman of the Banking Supervision Commission (2007), member of the Supervisory Board of the Banking Guarantee Fund (2007-2008), member of the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) in Brussels (2007-2008) and member of the Board of Directors at the European Investment Bank (2008). Before her career in government, she was the chief economist and Head of Treasury research for Central and the Eastern Europe Region at Citibank Handlowy. She also served as an independent member of the Supervisory Board at ING Bank Slaski in Poland and as an advisor to the CEO of the Polish Development Fund.
Ms. Zajdel-Kurowska holds a degree in economics from the University of Warsaw.
