Dimitrios Mazarakis is the global head of business development for climate and sustainability, at the commercial risk advisory and services unit of the Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich Resilience Solutions). In his role, he helps clients address their sustainability needs, primarily around risk adaptation and resilience.
His background includes a varied career spanning 17 years in insurance and consulting. Between 2022 and 2023 he worked as a director in Deloitte’s Sustainability practice in Central Europe. His role involved developing an offering to address the sustainability needs of insurance companies, as well as helping to structure a growing team spanning 18 countries, to cater to client needs in the most efficient way.
Prior to the consulting assignment, Dimitrios worked for the Zurich insurance group for a period of 15 years. During that time, he held various positions in underwriting, broker management and partnership building roles, developing different parts of the business and an understanding of the commercial insurance landscape from multiple angles. His roles included UK and London market, EMEA and global scopes as well as collaboration with multiple functions – from actuarial and claims, to sustainability, compliance, operations and finance. Dimitrios enjoys assisting clients and brokers find a solution to their challenges and collaborating across multiple functions to get the best results, which is why all of his roles to date have been market facing.
Before his insurance and sustainability days, he worked in a international, non-corporate environment. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) in the United Kingdom.
